After more than two decades of exhibiting at home shows across Europe, we finally brought Woodek Design to our first American home show. And what an experience it was.
The show was hosted by Adam Kayce here in Florida, and for our family, it felt like a milestone. We’ve spent over 25 years building furniture and building trust with customers in Europe, one handshake at a time, one piece of solid oak at a time. But the US market is different. New audience, new expectations, new tastes. We genuinely didn’t know what to expect.
Setting Up and Showing Up
One thing we’ve learned from years of European home shows is that nothing replaces the moment someone touches real solid wood for the first time. You can read about the difference between solid American oak and particle board all day, but the second your hand runs across a hand finished surface, you understand it in a way that no product photo can capture. That’s why we do home shows. That’s why we packed up our furniture, loaded the trailer, and set everything up ourselves.
Every member of our family was there. That’s how we’ve always done it. We don’t hire booth staff or sales reps. When you visit our booth, you’re talking to the people who actually run the business, the same people you’d reach if you called our number or sent us an email. We think that matters, especially when someone is investing in furniture they’ll live with for years.
The Response Took Us by Surprise
We hoped people would be curious. We didn’t expect them to be this enthusiastic.
From the moment the doors opened, visitors were drawn to our pieces. People would stop, touch the wood, and immediately ask the question we hear most often: “Is this really solid oak?” Yes. Every time, yes. And you could see it click for them. The weight, the grain, the finish. They could feel the difference.
What surprised us most was how many people already understood why handcrafted solid wood furniture matters. We didn’t have to convince anyone that particle board falls apart after a few years. People came to the show looking for something better, something real, and they recognized it the moment they saw our work.
Conversations That Stuck With Us
The best part of any home show isn’t the sales. It’s the conversations.
We talked with young couples furnishing their first home who wanted to start with pieces they wouldn’t have to replace in five years. We talked with families who had been burned by mass produced furniture that didn’t survive a single move. We met interior designers who immediately asked about our Trade Program. We even met a few people who had seen our products online and came specifically to see them in person.
One thing kept coming up in almost every conversation: people were genuinely happy to meet the family behind the brand. In an industry full of faceless corporations and overseas call centers, the fact that you can shake hands with the people who run the business still means something. We heard it over and over again, and it reminded us why we do things the way we do.
What This Means for Us Going Forward
This first US home show confirmed something we believed but hadn’t proven yet: the demand for real, handcrafted, solid wood furniture is alive and well in Florida. People here care about quality. They care about where their furniture comes from and who makes it. They want to invest in pieces that will be part of their home for a long time, not something they’ll replace in a few years.
For us, that’s everything. It means we’re in the right place. It means the 25 years of experience we’ve built in Europe translates here. And it means we’ll be back at more shows, meeting more of you, and continuing to do what we’ve always done: make furniture the way it should be made.
If you visited our booth and are reading this now, thank you. It was a pleasure meeting you, and we hope the pieces you brought home bring you as much joy as they brought us to make.
And if you missed the show but want to experience our furniture in person, keep an eye on our newsletter. We’ll be announcing our next event soon.
