Matt lacquer care instructions for wood surfaces

Daily care

  • Dust with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.
  • For fingerprints or light spills, wipe with a slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately.

Cleaning

  • Use warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.
  • Wipe in the direction of the wood grain with a soft cloth.
  • Rinse the cloth, wipe again with clean water, and dry thoroughly.

What to avoid

  • Do not use abrasive pads, scouring powders, Magic Erasers, or rough sponges.
  • Avoid harsh cleaners and chemicals (bleach, ammonia, acetone, alcohol-heavy sprays, solvent cleaners).
  • Do not use steam cleaners.

Heat, moisture, and protection

  • Always use coasters under glasses and placemats under dishes.
  • Use trivets or heat pads under hot pans, mugs, and appliances.
  • Wipe spills right away and don’t let water sit on the surface.
  • Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight for long periods to reduce uneven fading.

Humidity and seasonal changes (important for solid wood)

  • Solid wood naturally expands and contracts with humidity. Keep indoor humidity ideally around 40–60%.
  • In dry winter months, a humidifier can help reduce the chance of small stress cracks.

Long-term use

  • Lift items rather than dragging them to avoid micro-scratches.
  • Use felt pads under décor and under furniture legs on hard floors.
  • If a mark occurs, contact us before using any polish or “restorer” products so we can recommend the safest option for a matte lacquer finish.

Stone

  • Clean with mild soap and water, then dry with a soft cloth.

  • Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon).

  • Use coasters and mats to protect the surface.

Rugs

  • Rotate every few months for even wear.

  • Use rug pads for safety and protection.

  • Blot spills right away with a white cloth.

  • Vacuum in one direction with a brushless attachment.

  • Never pull loose threads - trim them instead.

  • Wool Rugs: Shedding is normal at first.

  • Natural Fiber Rugs: Vacuum on low power.

  • Performance Rugs: Spot clean easily; store indoors in heavy rain/winter.

Bedding

  • Wash cold with mild detergent.

  • Tumble dry low; remove promptly.

  • Fabrics soften beautifully over time.
